Timing
The mowing season in central Ohio
Around here the mowing season usually runs from April into November. Grass grows fastest in spring and again in early fall, and it slows down in the summer heat.
Good to know
- Most lawns in our area are cool-season grasses such as Kentucky bluegrass, tall fescue and perennial ryegrass. They do best kept on the taller side, around 3 inches or a little more, especially in summer.
- Cutting off more than one third of the blade at once stresses the grass. Regular visits keep every cut light.
- Sharp mower blades cut cleanly. Dull blades tear the grass and leave brown tips.
